History of the We Are Happy To Serve You Coffee Cup:

The origin of this iconic coffee cup started when Greek immigrants arrived in New York City. With them, they brought their love of coffee and corresponding culture resulting in ubiquitous Greek diners and sidewalk pushcarts sprinkled throughout the city.

In 1963 the Sherri Cup company sought to produce a disposable to-go coffee cup that would appeal to Greek vendors. Then Marketing Director Leslie Buck created a design integrating the colors of the Greek flag - blue and white. He then added graphic elements such as a trio of steaming yellow cups, flanked by ancient "Anthora" urns and framed with a Greek key pattern. His message "We Are Happy to Serve You" finished off the design that became so popular and so timeless even Lady Liberty gives her nod of approval.
